CSD Special Education Creates Plan to Provide Services Across Learning Formats

Whether children are learning in-person, online, or at home with parents when school starts anew on Aug. 24, Canyons District remains dedicated to providing Special Education supports to students. Parents who have questions or concerns about how to access Special Education services are encouraged to reach out to their child’s school or the Canyons District Special Education Department at 801-826-5022.

Memory Book Distribution

Our memory books are here! Please come pick yours up on Wednesday, August 12th.  We have multiple items for you to pick up including your memory book, copies of the online memory book signing page that was completed by students last May, and school awards. The pick-up is scheduled for Wednesday, August 12th with 9-11 am reserved for those with the last name starting with A-K and 1-3 pm reserved for those students with the last name starting with L-Z.

 Please read the following information carefully to keep this event as safe as possible for everyone.

Arrive at Butler Middle School from the east side, going past the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center. You will be directed down one of 3 lanes in the parking lot, separated by grade level. 6th grade will turn in first, then 7th and then 8th grade by the school. There will be people and signs directing you to the correct lane. Please have your student’s LAST NAME, FIRST NAME in CAPS on an 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper and in the window so that the volunteers can easily see it. You will remain in your car, and they will hand your student’s book and other items through the window.

To maintain safety, it is important for you and your student/s to remain in your car. We ask that the person by the passenger window wear a mask for the safety of the volunteers. We also ask that those students who walk to the school to pick up their book/awards/signing page schedule an appointment with the BMS front office at (801) 826-6800. For safety, we will have them come the following day.

We will also accommodate families with students in multiple grades from 11- 12 pm on the 12th. This will be done through curbside pick-up.

Start of school delayed until Aug. 24 in response to teacher, community concerns

The first day of school in Canyons District this fall has been pushed back one week. 

By making a slight change to the academic calendar for the 2020-2021 school year, members of the Canyons Board of Education decided Tuesday to start school on Monday, Aug. 24 instead of Monday, Aug. 17.

The decision was made during a regular meeting of the Board of Education held at the Canyons District Offices, 9361 S. 300 East. 

“The change to the academic calendar was made after much reflection, review, and thoughtful input from parents, teachers and students,” said Nancy Tingey, President of the Canyons Board of Education. “The slight postponement of the start of the school year honors requests from our hard-working teachers while also minimizing disruption to families’ schedules.”
