Review of TSSA/Land Trust Plan and Allocations (15 minutes)
3 Major Goals:
1. Literacy
2. Math
3. School Climate
60 % of our students to achieve at least average growth or more.
School Climate: we want 90% of students to feel connected to the school and we have provided a survey that asks those specific questions. A Parent Square was sent to Parents to ask permission for their student to fill out the form. We will reach out over the phone and ask for over the phone permission going forward. This will give us the ability at the end of the quarter to look at students’ needs and what students are not feeling connected and begin building interventions with our MTSS Assistant Marie Hoffer or Teachers to have conversations to build and provide support.
Land Trust and TSSA Allocations:
Teacher Success Act – $231,741.91 -TSSA Land Trust – $145,493.01
As a School Community Council, the goal is how we can utilize these funds to the best of our ability by allocating these funds to support our students.
Teacher Success Act: provides for one Teacher who teaches Literacy and Math intervention. Our ESP’s and MTSS Assistants Marie Hoffer. Allocated is $4,000 for substitutes for our teachers to do quarterly database. Each one of our departments does a half day to work on student data and PLC’s. We also allow elective teachers to do that as well. Allocated $5,000 for field trips and busing. Supplies $22,000 which is student PBIS support. Textbooks $10,000 last year we went through Math books, so our teachers are now using the Print Shop to print. Software $10,000 to utilize Newslea a new software that collects articles that are current events according reading level. This includes comprehension questions. This will be used by the teachers each week to increase reading and comprehension. Conferences, registration and travel. This year is Social Studies and Science Departments.
Land Trust: We have $75,000 for a teacher and support staff. ESP (Education Support Personal) at 35,000. We also have a Copy Aide that is included in the Trust that supports Media Center and chrome books.

Counselors Update -Jenny Baker (5 minutes)
CCR update (College Career Readiness). Last year we had 70% of Parents attend their scheduled meetings. 45 minute meetings, we talk about High School and after High School goals. We will be going to Brighton Oct. 15th 8th graders and take a tour. This gives them information and helps prepare students for their upcoming year as a freshman and registration. Utah College Week we provide information and fun activities. Oct. 7th will be Reality Town, we are asking for volunteers.
School Safety Plan Review-Scott Dwyer (18 minutes)
Hold explained to account for students, clear the hallway, close and lock door, business as usual. Ignore bell schedule.
Secure explained when something is going on in the neighborhood. All exterior doors locked. This includes the Main front doors. We bring everyone indoors, lock external doors, increase situational awareness, account for students, visitor and others, business as usual. If they are at the Rec Center, they will stay there until further notice. This will be our next Drill.
Lock Down explained to collect students from the hallway, lock classroom door, turn out lights, move away from sight, maintain silence, silence cell phones. All doors are opened. This allows Police and first responders to enter the building. We have done this Drill this year. We had 8 officers attend that day and assist.
Parent Square is sent out notifying Parents that we will be practicing those that day.
Evacuate is explained as a fire, or gas leak or earthquake. Great shakeout in April. Lead evacuation to specific location, account for students, adults. Notify if missing, inured or extra people. This was done 2nd week of school in under 5 minutes.
Shelter is explained as weather related and designed for those circumstances. Seal the room or evacuate. In case of an earthquake, to drop, cover and hold.

Safe Walking Routes Review-Scott Dwyer and Officer Wallace (20 minutes)
Handouts were given to the sec that explain and show Safe Walking Routes. Not much has changed from last year. Map is posted on Canyon’s website. Map of the car drop-off
and bus drop-off locations were discussed. Concern of dropping them off in the Parking lot and making sure they use the crossing designations. Students walking their bikes, skateboards as they enter the school and parking lots. Reminding Parents to make sure they are using the right drop off areas for the safety of all students. Busing Zones are NOT a drop off area. Thank you to our Hall Monitor Craig Bell who is out at the Buses every day before and after school. Discussion about having SBO’s participating in assisting before and after school.
Officer Wallace discussed concerns that Parents are dropping off students and having them go through the parking lot or blocking the entrance. This may inhibit access to first responders getting in during an emergency. The safety of not seeing students in the Parking Lot crossing over into the school.
24-25 – Concerns were corrected. New Stop sign. 23-24 – Have not been completely addressed.
25-26 – No sidewalk on Bengal Blvd is a concern and a flashing sign. A petition is suggested to the City of Cottonwood Heights.
