Goals for Butler Middle School’s TSSP 2022-2023

Attendance Goal:
In the 2022-2023 school year, BMS will aim to have 85% of our students on track each quarter with attendance in all grades and student groups.  We define on track as students missing less than 10% (green and yellow).

Behaviors Goal:  
Behavior – 85% of students will report feeling connected to school on targeted school climate survey. We will average the last 3 data questions related specifically to connectedness from the survey.

Coursework: MI (Math) Goal:
75% of our students will be proficient or advanced on the Spring 2023 Math Inventory (MI). 5% or less in Below Basic and 20% or less in Basic in each grade level by the end of the school year.75% of our SWD, ELLs, and students in the Below Basic level will grow at least 50 points or one level in the January and April testing windows.

Coursework: RI (Reading) Goal:
80% of our students will be proficient or advanced on the Spring 2023 Reading Inventory (RI).5% or less in Below Basic and 15% or less in Basic in each grade level by the end of the school year. 80% of our Students with Disabilities, English Language Learners, and students in the Below Basic level will grow at least 50 points or one level in the January and April testing windows.

  • Sara Vranes made a motion to approve the February meeting minutes, Jennifer Hamelin 2nd and the Vote was All in favor.


3. TSSP/LandTrust Plans
(Paula)

  • Informational/Approval—Motion/Vote
  • Goal 1 Attendance–BMS TSSP 2023_2024
    • Doug Draughan made a motion to approve the Attendance Goal, Sara Vranes 2nd and the Vote was All in Favor.
  • Goal 2 Behavior–BMS TSSP 2023_2024
    • The Student PTSA board members voted to change the wording on some of the Connectedness Survey questions:
      • Adults at my school listen to my thinking and understand my concerns. Change to: Do adults at your school listen to you and care about what you are saying?
      • My teachers know my name and know something about me. NO Changes, this one was totally clear to the students.
      • I have friends at Butler Middle School. Change to: Do you have friends at school? OR Do you have friends at Butler Middle School?
      • I know an adult at school I can talk with if I need help. Change to: Do you know an adult at school that you can talk to if you need help?
    • Ily Murdock made a motion to approve the Behavior Goal, Doug Draughan 2nd and the Vote was All in Favor.
  • Goal 3 Reading–BMS TSSP 2023_2024
    • Depending on funding, we would like to add a reading/ELL aide.
    • Ily Murdock made a motion to approve the Reading Goal, Sara Vranes 2nd and the Vote was All in Favor.
  • Goal 4 Math–BMS TSSP 2023_2024
    • We had discussed lowering the goal from 75% to 70% proficiency but the math department wanted to keep the higher goal.
    • Depending on funding, we would like to add a Math aide.
    • Genny Poll made a motion to approve the Math Goal, Doug Draughan 2nd, and the Vote was All in Favor.


4. March 30th Meeting
–cancel or keep

    • Genny Poll made a motion to cancel the March 30th meeting as all items were approved and voted on today. Tatian Grant 2nd the motion and the Vote was All in Favor.

 

5. Course Requests/Registration Timeline (Genny) *Informational

    • March—look at funding and request numbers to determine courses for next year
    • April/May—create school schedule for next year—determine which combinations of courses each period fits the most student requests.
    • June/August—work with counselors to finalize student schedules, look at additional student requests
    • August—Parents register students online
    • ~August 10—Schedules available
    • August 18—6th Grade Orientation
    • August 21—School Starts

6. Hiring/Staff Changes for the Coming Year (Paula)

  • Dave Olsen (Retiring) – district replacement
  • Nicole Clark (Retiring) – hiring
  • Melissa Quinones (going full time at Mt. Jordan Middle) – district placement
  • Jean Leonard (going full time at Draper Park Middle) – not replacing
  • Julie Epperson (Retiring) – district placement
  • Chelsea Qu – not replacing
  • Brittany Hawk (Going to Copper View Elementary) – hiring
  • ACC Unit – Special Education Unit

 

7. Upcoming Calendar Events (Genny) *Informational

    • End of Quarter—March 17
    • Talent Show March 30–Teacher of the Year Announcement
    • Spring Break April 3-7
    • RI/MI/AAPPL Testing Mid-April
    • RISE Testing- April 24th – May 15th

 

8. Sara Vranes made a motion to end the meeting at 4:42 pm, Ily Murdock 2nd and the Vote was All in Favor.
