Goals for Butler Middle School’s CSIP 2020-2021

Attendance Goal:

In the 2020-2021 school year, BMS will aim to have 85% of our students on track each quarter with attendance in all grades and student groups. We define on track as students missing less than 10% (green and yellow).

Behaviors Goal:

Behavior – 85% of students will report feeling connected to school on targeted school climate survey. We will average the last 3 data questions related specifically to connectedness from the survey.

Coursework: MI (Math) Goal:

75% of our students will be proficient or advanced on the Spring 2021 Math Inventory (MI).

5% or less in Below Basic and 20% or less in Basic in each grade level by the end of the school year. 75% of our SWD, ELLs, and students in the Below Basic level will grow at least 50 points or one level in the January and April testing windows.

Coursework: RI (Reading) Goal:

80% of our students will be proficient or advanced on the Spring 2021 Reading Inventory (RI).

5% or less in Below Basic and 15% or less in Basic in each grade level by the end of the school year.

80% of our Students with Disabilities, English Language Learners, and students in the Below Basic level will grow at least 50 points or one level in the January and April testing windows.

  1. Welcome – Introductions

  2. Approve last meeting minutes (November) Paula Logan made a motion to approve the minutes, Lori Carter 2nd and all in favor.

  3. School Safety (Dan Ashbridge)
  • Safe Walking Route: There have not been any proposed changes to the current Safe Walking Route.
    • Continued Concerns: SCC would like the district or city to consider adding pedestrian carried flags at all crosswalks. We had requested more lighting at the crosswalks and the city said No so we asked for the Light up stop signs, again city said No but we as a school could purchase the light up signs.
    • CSD has advocated on behalf of sidewalk from 2600 E between Toni Circle to Bridgewater Drive. See Attached letter.
    • We would like an updated timeline for the City/Brighton construction and the proposed roundabout.
  • Drills Report: we have had 8 drills so far and will have one next week. With COVID we are unable to exit for our drills, teachers review the process and exit routes.
  1. COVID Update (Paula)
  • In the past 2 weeks we have 6 cases, 3 have finished their quarantine and are back in school.
  • At the beginning of the year we had 170 students on line.
    • 3rd quarter we have 136 students taking core classes on-line, with a portion coming in for electives.

5. PTC—Feb. 23/24

  • Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up and will be online again.

6.    Review CSIP Data from Mid-Year (Sara)

  • Attendance goal 85%
    • Attendance is the hardest part to monitor/track do to on-line and quarantine.
  • MI testing – Goal is 75%, we started lower than past years but we were not surprised after the way last year ended. We started in fall at 24% and in winter we are at 44%. The test is designed to test on what a student should know by the end of the school year, so we expect the numbers to be lower at the beginning of the year and increase as the year goes on.
  • RI testing – Goal is 80%, we are up from 70% in fall to 75% for winter, we attribute some of this to the online learning and the need to read more. We also implemented a new program; Read 180.
  • School Connectedness Survey, we had more participation in winter than fall. School is hard this year and the answers showed that.
  • Comparison from Online/In Person
  • ODRs: (students referred to the office for discipline issues) 76% are boys, 24% girls October and November tend to be higher months, and lunch and end of the day tend to be higher numbers
  • PBIS, points as of today by grade: 6 -1898, 7th 3679, 8th 1751
    • Points by gender, boys – 75,443 total 149.97 average, girls – 73,979 total, 177.83 average
