Goals for Butler Middle School’s CSIP 2021-2022

 Attendance Goal:
In the 2021-2022 school year, BMS will aim to have 85% of our students on track each quarter with attendance in all grades and student groups.  We define on track as students missing less than 10% (green and yellow).

Behaviors Goal:
Behavior – 85% of students will report feeling connected to school on targeted school climate survey taken at the end each quarter.  We will average the percents of the 4 data questions related specifically to connectedness from the survey.

Coursework: Reading (RI) Goal:

  • 80% of our students will be proficient or advanced on the Spring 2022 RI in each grade level.
  • 5% or less in BB and 15% or less in Basic in each grade level by the end of the school year.
  • 80% of our SWD, ELLs,  and students in the Below Basic level will grow at least 50 points or one level in the January and April testing windows.

Coursework: Math (MI) Goal:

  • 75% of our students will be proficient or advanced on the Spring 2022 MI.
  • 5% or less in BB and 20% or less in Basic in each grade level by the end of the school year.
  • 75% of our SWD, ELLs,  and students in the Below Basic level will grow at least 50 points or one level in the January and April testing windows.

1. Welcome – Introductions (Summer)

2. Approve last meeting minutes (November)

    • Summer made a motion to approve the minutes, Doug seconded them and the vote was All in Favor.

3. School Safety (Halley Nelson)

    • Safe Walking Route:  Concerns:
    1. The exit turning left onto Bengal Blvd. in the mornings is an issue.
    2. Crossing Guard across from the Rec Center lights are turned off too soon in the mornings.
    3. lighting around/near the crosswalk is needed, it’s too dark in the mornings and not safe
    4. Please stop by the office this week to sign off on the Safe Walking Route.

4. COVID Update (Paula) *Informational

  •
    • Number of cases:   The SL County Health Department dashboard has us at 38. Students are on the list for 14 days, but only in isolation for 5 days. The county dashboard does not count staff, only student cases.
    • Remote Days:  The Canyons School Board approved 2 more remote learning Fridays; January 28 and February 4.  Our teachers are doing a good job with the Remote Friday assignments. We have a large number of students that are not participating on these days, only about 47% are completing the work.
    • Resetting the Count:

5. PTC—March 1-2

    • Depending on COVID numbers, appointments will be Online or a hybrid of In-Person and Online.

6. Review TSSP Data from Mid-Year (Paula)

  • Attendance (Q1, Q2): Due to Covid we have been well below our goal of 85%. In the 1st Quarter we had an average of 76% of students on track. 2nd Quarter 55% of students on track. That seems really low but we are on average 2% more than all CSD Middle Schools. The numbers don’t look good but as we can see with the MI and RI data the kids are still progressing and learning.
  • Behavior/Connectedness Survey: Overall we went from 89% in 1st quarter to 90.5% in 2nd quarter of students reporting they feel connected to school.
  • MI testing: The fall numbers are always lower as the test is a “Pre test” of the standards they will learn during the year. With the Winter and Spring tests being more of a “Post Test” of the standards. 2022: Fall, 28% and Winter/Mid Year, 49%.
  • RI testing: Mid Year/Winter testing: 2020 – 72%, 2021 – 74% and 2022 – 76% we have continued to see improvement. Seeing good trends in all of the sub groups.
