A power outage caused by a construction crew on private property near the school has forced the cancellation of afternoon classes at Butler Middle on Monday, Nov. 30.
The utility company has indicated that power may not be restored at the school until after 2 p.m., and the building’s back-up generators are not producing enough power to keep the building fully lighted and warm.
The school also does not have access to the phone system or the Internet. Lunch was served to students before school was let out for the day at approximately 11:50 a.m.
Transportation was being provided to students who usually ride the bus, and parents also were told they could pick up their children at the school starting at 11:45 a.m. Students also could walk home.
The phone lines have been diverted to the Canyons District Offices. Representatives will be available to provide information and pass along messages to the school administrators.
Questions? Parents and guardians can call the Canyons District Office at 801-826-5000 or send an email to communications@canyonsdistrict.org.
Parents will be updated about the class schedule for Tuesday, Dec. 1.
