Greetings,
We made it through another GREAT week! The weather was so nice. A little windy one day, but beautiful. I love Fall! Each year our Student Body Officers put together “Spirit Week” and our GREAT Bruins did not disappoint. Our student body really showed their school spirit dressing up as movie/book characters, disney characters, and retro. What a fun week it has been. Monday is school colors and Tuesday we will finish up with pajama day. We won’t be sending an Bruin Bite next week, so Happy Thanksgiving! We hope you have a lovely time with your family and continue to hope for your safety and health.
Safety Update: I have had a few parents ask about positive COVID cases at BMS. The district posts this information on the District Dashboard. We continue to remain in the 1-5 range. I want to express my gratitude for your efforts at home. While the dashboard says that we have 5 students quarantined, we have several parents who have proactively kept their children home after a positive exposure. BMS remains in person with some of the lowest rates because of the care you are taking in your homes and the support you give to us as we work with your children to be safe at school. Thank you! Your efforts at home and ours at school have made a difference in our COVID dashboard numbers. As we move into the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, please continue to take care:
- Wear a face mask anytime you are around people with whom you don’t live.
- Maintain physical distance from those who aren’t in your household.
- Practice good hand-washing hygiene (use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if you don’t have access to soap and water).
- Stay home when you: are sick, have symptoms of COVID, have tested positive for COVID, or have been placed on quarantine.
Socks for Homeless Shelters – Butler Middle School is giving back this month by collecting new, unused socks for homeless shelters in our community. Our Student Body Officers are hosting this charitable cause with a grade-level competition. The grade-level with the most socks donated will win a GREAT prize. We appreciate your support of this worthwhile cause. Thank you!
Golden Bruin – Wednesday was our third Golden Bruin Award day. This year our Golden Bruin award is being used to celebrate classes with the most work completed by the whole class. For this month we celebrated National Mickey Mouse Birthday with the 4th period classes who had the fewest missing assignments. Our winner for 6th grade was Ms. Long; 7th grade was Ms. Westwood; 8th grade was Ms. Howlett; and Electives was Mr. Evans A day class. Golden Bruin’s from these four classes received a Mickey Mouse Pez Candy Dispenser and 10 Bruin Bucks. Congratulations to all of these GREAT Golden Bruins! Our next Golden Bruin day will be December 8th, National Brownie Day.
Wild Weather Days/Inside Days – With snow already falling and in the forecast, there will be days when traveling to and from school may become challenging for families. Please give yourself and child extra travel time to arrive at school safely and on time. We do have more parents drive on bad weather days which means there will be a longer wait time. Having your child ready to exit (5 second drop off) is the expectation. This becomes really important on the busier days.
PTSA Partnership/Panda Express – Our November PTSA Partnership with Panda Express was a success. We appreciate your support of our school and PTSA. Thank you!
PTSA Campaign Drive – What better way to show our gratitude for our teachers than to give support by signing up for the PTSA? Anyone can join, click on the link below and join today.

Parent Resources – I try to send home various articles or links that I think parents might find useful. This is just a resource that you as a parent might find interesting. Sometimes I share my thoughts about it; sometimes I just share. It takes a village to raise our children and to keep them safe. I hope that some of what I am able to send is helpful. Sometimes there are repeats, but I do try to provide at least one resource each week. This week there is a Thanksgiving theme.
Build-A-Bruin – The following 1st period classes reached their classroom goal and got to spin the wheel for prizes:
- Mrs. Clark
Upcoming Events
- November 24 – SafeUT presentation from Counselors in Science classes
- November 25-27 – Thanksgiving Recess
- November 30 – Midterms
- November 30 – NetSmartz Assembly (virtual assembly)
- December 21-January 1 – Winter Recess
If there is anything we can do to support you and your student, please let us know. And remember,
It’s always a GREAT day . . . To be a BRUIN!!!
Ms. Paula Logan
